Civil/Mechanical Project Engineer – Melbourne

On the back of sustained growth, we have a newly created opportunity for a Project Engineer with specialist experience within water and gas infrastructure.

Based in Epping and operating throughout metro-Melbourne and Victoria, your role will be to manage small projects or subsets of larger projects aligned with urban water and gas infrastructure capital works. Specifically, you will oversee various stages of the project management life-cycle including safely and profitably delivering and closing out projects. More specifically, the incumbent’s duties will include, but not limited to;

  • Preparing engineering analysis of projects to include: preliminary design, calculation, life cycle cost and equipment selection;
  • Performing technical, engineering, inspection, scheduling, planning, procurement and quality control functions for assigned project issues;
  • Preparing and interpret blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts and technical construction specifications;
  • Coordinating the activities of the design and construction teams;
  • Assisting in the tendering process by developing tender lists, evaluating tenders and preparing the recommendations to award contracts;
  • Developing a scope of works for the tender package;
  • Managing subcontractors and subcontract administration;
  • Managing construction activities and resolve construction issues as they arise.

This role is available to experienced Project Engineers with a minimum of 4 years’ experience. Experience within the gas and/or water industries will be highly advantageous.

Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering is preferred; Bachelor of Civil Engineering will be accepted as substitute.

As the successful candidate, you will possess/demonstrate;

  • Bachelor level degree in Civil or Mechanical Engineering (preferable);
  • Post graduate studies in Project Management and/or Business Management (advantageous);
  • Experience on water and/or gas capital works projects (preferable)

 

 

Gas Renewals Crew Leader and Mains & Service Workers – Melbourne

A number of exciting gas projects through Melbourne’s North West will come online very shortly. This presents a great opportunity for Gas Service/Mainlaying Workers to join our team.

You will be working in a team environment of 6-8 like-minded people.

System Operations Fitter – Clayton

An opportunity has arisen for a System Operations Fitter to join our team based in Clayton. Anyone with interest or experience in Gas Maintenance, Natural Gas Pipeline Maintenance, Gas Network Maintenance, Gas Mains and Service Maintenance or Gas Mains and Services Construction will have interest in this opportunity.

Comdain maintains excellent safety and quality standards and is currently over 2 years LTI free and going. You will be trained in the relevant technical skills including internal and external training.  We maintain good, long term relationships with our clients providing for excellent job security.

For consideration, you must be either:

  • Indentured Fitter and Turner; OR
  • Have a sound mechanical background with passes in relevant TAFE school modules.

Additional experience which will help in your application will include;

  • 2 years’ experience in the maintenance of piping and plant,
  • Proven ability to plan, organise and control a small workforce or workshop;
  • Current Victorian driver’s license.

 

Senior Estimator – NSW

Due to an increasing workload within NSW Comdain is seeking a Senior Estimatorwith experience within the local water market. As well as this we anticipate engaging in works within the NSW gas network environment.
 
This role will see you undertake estimating and contribute to the production of winning bids across a range of procurement strategies including construct only, D&C, early contractor involvement for projects of between $1 to $25 million in value.

More specifically, this role will see you;

  • Prepare plans for the development of bids to ensure that bids are completed cost effectively in accordance with quality and time requirements;
  • Develop multi-disciplinary cost estimates using in house and sub-contractor resources;
  • Prepare cost estimates based on first principles, using your knowledge of construction methodologies, productivity rates and market rates and conditions within NSW;
  • Contribute to the development and production of winning bids, including preparation of construction methodologies, programs and tender schedules;
  • Represent Comdain as required at tender briefings and client interface/kick-off meetings;
  • Participate in governance reviews with the Comdain Senior Management Team;
  • Develop and maintain estimating metrics/databases for use on future projects; and
  • Contribute to the development of positive long term relationships throughout the supply chain including suppliers, sub-contractors and clients.

You will be supported by a highly experience management team as you leverage on your experience in putting forward fresh ideas and initiatives.

As the successful candidate, you will have completed a Bachelor of Engineering with at least 10 years post graduate experience as an Estimator on water/sewer or civil engineering capital projects, ideally with some exposure to project delivery in a site role.

 

Mechanical Fitter – NSW

The Mechanical Fitter is part of Comdain Infrastructure’s NSW team working on planned and reactive maintenance of water and sewer infrastructure as well as minor capital installation projects from time to time.

Specifically, the Mechanical Fitter will be upgrading mechanical equipment associated with water and sewer infrastructure such as pump stations and treatment plants. The Mechanical Fitter also directs the work of sub-contractors ensuring they operate in a safe manner and in accordance with Comdain’s and clients policies and procedures relating to OH&S and quality.

We will provide you with ongoing training and development. We maintain good, long term relationships with our clients providing for excellent job security. The successful applicant will be provided with a vehicle and tools of trade for business use.

Experience in the maintenance and capital works of mechanical equipment associated with Water infrastructure is preferred although not essential. Applicants shall be able to demonstrate experience in Industrial mechanical fitting.

Licenses and accreditation’s relevant for this position include;

  • Indentured Fitter & Turner;
  • Working at Height Accreditation; and
  • Confined Space Accreditation;

Technical competency will ideally include –

  • Maintenance under shutdown conditions;
  • Fault Finding and Diagnosis;
  • Pump and Valve Overhauls;
  • Equipment Commissioning; and
  • Basic welding and fabrication

 

Trades Assistant – NSW

An opportunity has arisen for a Trades Assistant to join our water/wastewater infrastructure team. Working on a variety of engineering works, you will be a diligent worker and team player, ideally with some labouring experience. You will also be comfortable in complying with OH&S and quality systems to ensure the safe, timely and quality delivery of projects to budget.

This is a newly created position as Comdain’s NSW team engages new clients and opportunities whilst continuing to service long time clients.
Based out of Seven Hills, the Trades Assistant works across client sites throughout Sydney.

For consideration, you will ideally have the following qualifications/experience:

  • Drivers’ license (MR desirable);
  • Construction Industry Induction (White) Card;
  • Working at heights;
  • Confined Space;
  • Riggers Ticket;
  • Pipework’s/pump installation experience;
  • Prior experience in water and/or sewer projects;
  • Previous knowledge and / or experience in either manual labouring, use of hand tools or mechanical equipment;
  • Formwork/Steel fixing; and a
  • Hands-on, team player.

 

Pipe Layer & Operators – NSW

Comdain’s NSW Team is ramping up to deliver some existing and new projects. With this comes an opportunity for a Pipe Layer and Operator/Excavator to join the team on projects in South West Sydney. These are permanent, full-time opportunities commencing ASAP.

What we are looking for:
As one of the successful candidates, you will be part of a team involved in the safe and effective construction of water and sewer infrastructure.
You will bring with the following;

  • Prior experience in water and/or sewer projects;

On the back of sustained growth, we have a newly created opportunity for a Foreman with specialised construction experience on waste water treatment plants. Experience is required in civil works, concreting, pipelines and co-ordinating mechanical & electrical works.

Your role will be to oversee and lead a small crew with a major focus on safety, quality, standards and customer satisfaction. You will carry out inspections to ensure standards are maintained and use good management practices that continuously improve initiatives to meet or better KPI’s. The Foreman is hands-on and leads by example.
