National Leader – Engineering & Construction

Working within Comdain’s Development Group (re Specialist Services), the National Leader – Engineering & Construction is responsible for helping to position Comdain Infrastructure as leaders within the Water and Gas sectors and assist Comdain Infrastructure to profitably win and deliver larger and more complex engineering & construction projects.
Role would suit a senior project manager looking for a change from day to day delivery to focus on capacity building within a vibrant community of project management professionals.

You will lead a community of 100 plus project professionals from across all Comdain’s business units to improve capability through people, process and technology initiatives.

You will be a subject matter expert in the design and construction of water and gas infrastructure and provide hands on support to business unit managers, project managers and design managers throughout the project life-cycle. You will remain across technological and design innovations and best practice within Comdain’s chosen sectors and will provide leadership through innovation.

As a successful candidate, you will possess:

  • Bachelor level qualification(s) in either Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering (essential);
  • Capable Project Manager / Director in civil, water and/or gas;
  • Strong collaborative approach to working with individual business units;
  • Driven to grow both revenue and capability;
  • Passion for safety;
  • Strong technical engineering competency in civil spaces;

Experience:

  • Combined 15+ years in ‘hands-on’ project delivery experience as Project Engineer, Project Manager or Project Director;
  • Experience in delivery Civil or Mechanical D&C and C only projects;
  • Experience in bidding and winning large and complex projects (≥$30M);
  • Experience in integrating design, estimation, commercial and delivery teams of D&C projects from bid to completion;
  • Experience in working across multiple business units to support delivery teams in matters such as project governess and/or contractor PMO role
  • Some level of general management and P&L responsibility

 

Pre-Contracts Manager – Echuca

New opportunities across rural Victoria and New South Wales now and into the future has lead us to create the role of Pre-Contracts Manager within our Regional Team. A highly successful initiative across other parts of our business, the Pre-Contracts Manager will support the sustainable growth of the Regional Team.

The Pre-Contracts Manager is integrated within local operations to support ongoing profitable growth by winning new projects and supporting the profitable delivery of projects won. This includes delivering optimal tender designs and project designs, and driving innovation into all technical solutions. You will regularly coordinate with Clients, Estimators, Designers and Business Development. As a secondary function, you will also act as the Project Manager on some of the projects you will help win.

As the successful candidate, you will have 10+ years post-graduate experience as an Engineer and/or Project Manager incl.;

  • 2+ years exp. in the management of tenders/bids for civil projects;
  • 2+ years exp. in Design Management; and
  • Experience in the water or irrigation industries

 

Operator/ Loader/ Excavator – Melbourne 

Comdain is ramping up to deliver some exiting new projects. With these come opportunities for Operator/ Loader/ Excavator/ Backhoe to join the team based out of Epping and working throughout Melbourne.

As one of the successful candidates, you will be part of a team involved in the safe and effective construction of water and gas pipelines.
You will bring with the following;

  • Prior experience in Construction
  • Construction industry induction card (white card);
  • Operator tickets
  • Experience in L&D sites, install water / mains sewers / Water renewals

 

Welder – Melbourne

On the back of sustained growth, we have a newly created opportunity for a Welderto join Comdain as part of our Engineering Victoria group.

Your role will be to fabricate and weld gas pipework to x-ray quality within our Fabrication Workshop in Epping leading to travelling to client sites across Victoria to complete field welds as part of final installation.

As the successful candidate, you will possess/demonstrate;

  • Qualified Boilermaker/Welder;
  • Pipeline welding experience including live welding on gas mains and carbon steel welding;
  • Knowledge/experience in any of Stik, MIG, TIG and/or STT weld processes;
  • Knowledge and experience in using and complying with AS4041 and AS2885;
  • Ability to read and fabricate to spool and isometric drawings;
  • Construction industry induction card ‘white card’ (preferable);
  • Confined space accreditation (preferable);
  • Hazardous area accreditation (preferable);
  • First aid certificate (preferable)

 

Estimator – Melbourne North

Expression of interest encouraged from an experienced Estimator or seasoned Project Engineer looking for a career change. In field delivery experience is advantageous.

Based in Epping, you will take an active role in the tendering of contracts through the analysis of plans, specifications, proposals and other data in preparing time, cost and labour first principles estimates for water and gas capital works projects.

As the successful candidate, you will possess/demonstrate;

  • Bachelor level degree in Civil/Mechanical Engineering (preferable);
  • Post graduate studies in Project Management and/or Business Management (advantageous);
  • Prior exposure to the water and/or gas industry (advantageous)

 

Trades Assistant/Labourer  – Engineering and Construction (Melbourne North)

An opportunity has arisen for a Trades Assistant to join our tank construction team. Working on a variety of engineering works, you will be a diligent worker and team player, ideally with some labouring experience. You will also be comfortable in complying with OH&S and quality systems to ensure the safe, timely and quality delivery of projects to budget.

For consideration, you must have the following qualifications:

  • Victorian Driver’s license
  • Construction Industry Induction (White) CardDesirable Criteria:
  • Experience in boilermaking/welding
  • Working at heights and Elevated Work Platform (EWP) tickets
  • Steel fabrication experience

 

Financial Accountant – Engineering and Asset Management Industry (Melbourne North)

The Financial Accountant has ownership of the co-ordination of the month end process and key aspects of financial reporting whilst overseeing the Accounts Payable Team.

Duties will include, but not limited to;

  • Assisting the Financial Controller and the Chief Financial Officer to ensuring goals and accountabilities of the Finance team are met;
  • Supervise and support the Accounts Payable Team;
  • Own statutory reporting, including management of BAS and FBT returns;
  • Co-ordination of the month end process and key financial reporting tasks;
  • Management of general ledger reconciliations process across all Comdain Infrastructure Group entities, including compliance and review.

Assistant Accountant – Melbourne North

The Assistant Accountant is a newly created opportunity responsible for providing support across the entire finance team and the broader business.  The position has daily, weekly and month end accounting responsibilities in addition to compliance work and other general accounting tasks.

Estimator – Water/Wastewater and Civil Infrastructure Projects (QLD)

As an Estimator with Comdain, you will take an active role in the tendering of contracts through the analysis of plans, specifications, proposals and other data in preparing time, cost and labour estimates for the project or other service offered by Comdain. You will work to maximise project margin and add value to the construction process through their proactive involvement in procurement, cost management and reporting.
Specifically your duties will include, but are not limited to;

  • Reviewing data to determine material and labor requirements and prepare itemised list(s);
  • Computing cost factors and prepares estimates used for management purposes;
  • Consulting with clients, vendors, designers and other stakeholders to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues;
  • Analysing completed projects to compare estimated costs to actual costs;
  • Interfacing with stakeholders within Comdain to obtain support and commitment to the cost estimates;
  • Communicating project information to delivery team;
  • Conducting special studies to develop and establish standard hour and related cost data or effect cost reductions;
  • Provide improvement recommendations to cost estimating procedures;
  • Identify cost trends to assist management in cost reduction and process improvement efforts.

You will work with and be supported by an experienced Estimating & Design Manager, and will play a key role in helping to continue develop Comdain’s Queensland business.

 

Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ) Advisor – QLD

Reporting to and working with the support of HSEQ Manager, as the Health, Safety, Environment & Quality (HSEQ) Advisor, you will be responsible for ensuring a safe and healthy workplace for personnel inclusive of employees, subcontractors and visitors through the facilitation of compliance to relevant Occupational Health & Safety (OH&S) legislation.

You will additionally be responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental legislation as well as providing direction, advice and guidance to management, supervisors, work teams and contractors in relation to health, safety, environment and quality management systems whilst driving continuous improvements.

As the successful applicant, you will have:

  • At least 5 years similar experience preferably within the water, wastewater & gas sectors;
  • Diploma level qualification in OH&S (preferable);
  • First Aid Certificate (Level II);
  • Construction Industry Induction Card (aka ‘white card’);
  • Drivers’ license.
